# Ridgeway & Cole | Sites web et produits digitaux pour la recherche

## Cover

*Research site homepage with a protein render*

*Tablet glowing on a walnut desk*

*Stacked glass panels in ochre light*

*Biennale ticketing screen on a phone*

*Extruded grid lit amber*

*Ridgeway & Cole*

## Positioning

We design for organisations whose ideas are harder to explain than to have.

## The studio

### The studio in numbers

Founded in 2015 by Anna Ridgeway and Tobi Cole. Small enough that one of us designs every project we take on.

### Designers and engineers

**11**

### Sites and products launched

**46**

### Median LCP at launch

**1.4s**

### Average client relationship

**6 yrs**

## Point of view

### Fast is the floor, not the point

*Point of view*

The web got quicker and more forgettable at the same time. We think the organisations with the hardest ideas deserve better than a template with their logo on it.

Most of our clients explain something difficult for a living: a protein, a biennale, a body of research. Their websites are where a funder, a student or a visitor decides whether to keep reading.

So we start from the idea and its audience, and treat speed and accessibility as the minimum. Every launch ships with a performance budget and a WCAG 2.2 AA audit. Neither is an upsell.

## Featured work

### Calyx Genomics, research and careers

*Calyx Genomics site with a protein explorer*

### Fenland Biennale, identity and tickets

*Biennale ticketing on two phones*

### Orrery Press, open-access reading

*Orrery Press reading platform on a tablet*

| Label | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Calyx | 1.2 |
| Fenland | 1.6 |
| Orrery | 0.9 |
| Saltmarsh | 1.8 |
| Circular Materials | 1.4 |

### Calyx research applications

| Label | Value |
| --- | --- |
| M1 | 112 |
| M2 | 104 |
| M3 | 131 |
| M4 | 158 |

## How we work

### How a project runs

Most projects take ten to sixteen weeks. The shape stays the same; the length depends on how much content needs rewriting.

### 1. Read everything first

Two weeks inside your research, analytics and support inbox before we draw anything. We usually find the real brief here.

### 2. Structure in the open

Sitemap, content model and redirect map in a shared board your team edits with us, not a PDF sent for approval.

### 3. Prototype with real content

Figma prototypes built from your actual papers, events and data, tested with five people from each audience.

### 4. Build to a budget

Next.js on a headless CMS, with a performance budget enforced in CI. A page that breaks it does not ship.

### 5. Stay for ninety days

A named engineer on call after launch, and a ninety-day report against the numbers we agreed at the start.

## Working with us

### Starting a project with us

We take on six new projects a year so that Anna or Tobi can design each one. Projects usually start eight to ten weeks after a first conversation, and our next openings are in spring 2027.

If you have a brief, send it. If you only have a problem, send that instead; it is often the better starting point.

## Clients

### What clients say after the launch party

> They spent two weeks reading our papers before showing us a single screen. The protein explorer came out of that, and it is why research applications rose by two thirds.

— Dr Meera Kulkarni, Head of Talent, Calyx Genomics

> Eleven venues, three bus routes and a ticketing system volunteers could run from a phone. We sold 41,000 tickets online and nobody queued.

— Rhiannon Fairley, Director, Fenland Biennale

> Tobi cut our site from 600 pages to 140 and wrote every redirect by hand. Our search traffic did not move an inch at cutover.

— Professor Callum Strachan, Director, Institute for Circular Materials
